3 Information We Collect
ContactOut Collector Extension
The ContactOut Collector extension is designed with a local-first, privacy-respecting architecture. Specifically:
- No data is transmitted — The extension does not send any collected contact data, user behavior, or analytics to our servers or any third-party service.
- No account required — The extension does not require registration, login, or any personal information from you.
- Local storage only — All collected contact data is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage (
chrome.storage.local) and remains under your control. - Website content reading — The extension reads publicly visible contact information from contactout.com pages that you are actively browsing, solely to enable the core collection functionality.
Website & Support Channels
When you contact us via email for support, we collect:
- Your email address and name (as provided by you)
- The content of your support request
- Any attachments or screenshots you choose to share
4 How We Use Your Information
We use the limited information we collect solely for the following purposes:
- Providing the service — Enabling the extension's core functionality of collecting and exporting contact data locally.
- Support — Responding to your support requests and resolving technical issues.
- Product improvement — Understanding common issues to improve the product (based on support request patterns, not telemetry).
- Legal compliance — Meeting applicable legal obligations.
5 Information Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We only share information in the following limited circumstances:
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, or if we believe in good faith that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect our rights or safety, or investigate fraud.
Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.
The ContactOut Collector extension does not transmit any user data to our servers or any third-party service. All contact data you collect remains stored exclusively in your browser's local storage and on your local machine (when exported as CSV).
6 Data Storage & Security
We take the security of your data seriously:
- Local-only storage — ContactOut Collector stores all data exclusively in
chrome.storage.local, which is sandboxed and protected by the browser's built-in security model. - No remote databases — We do not operate any databases or cloud storage systems that hold your collected contact data.
- Encryption in transit — Our website and support channels are served over HTTPS/TLS.
- Access controls — Only you have access to the data stored in your browser's local storage. Uninstalling the extension removes all stored data.
7 Chrome Web Store — Limited Use Disclosure
Our use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Allowed Use
We only use permissions that access user data to provide or improve the user-facing features that are prominently described in our Chrome Web Store listing and in the product's user interface.
Allowed Transfer
We only transfer user data to third parties when it is: (a) necessary to provide or improve the product's user-facing features, (b) to comply with applicable laws, (c) necessary for security purposes, or (d) as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
Prohibited Uses
- We do not use or transfer user data for serving personalized, re-targeted, or interest-based advertisements.

8 Extension Permissions
ContactOut Collector requests only the minimum permissions necessary for its core functionality. Each permission and its purpose is detailed below:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
activeTab |
Required to send messages between the popup interface and the content script running on the active ContactOut tab, enabling the user to start/stop contact collection from the popup UI. |
storage |
Used to persist collected contacts, the collection state (started/stopped), and the user's selected mode (Simple/Advanced) across browser sessions so data is not lost when the popup closes. |
downloads |
Used to save the collected contacts as a CSV file to the user's computer when they click the Download CSV button in the popup. |
Host: contactout.com |
The content script runs only on contactout.com to read visible contact information (names, emails, job titles) from the page DOM. No data is sent to any external server. |
We do not request or use permissions beyond what is required for the product's existing functionality. If an update requires new permissions, you will be explicitly prompted by Chrome to accept them.
9 Your Rights & Choices
You have full control over your data:
- Access — You can view all collected contacts at any time through the extension's popup interface.
- Export — You can export your data as a CSV file using the extension's built-in download feature.
- Deletion — You can clear all collected data using the "Clear" button in the extension popup, or by uninstalling the extension entirely.
- Uninstall — You can uninstall the extension at any time from Chrome's extension management page. This will permanently delete all data stored by the extension.
- No account to delete — Since the extension does not require an account, there is no account deletion process needed.
10 Data Retention
We retain data only as follows:
- Extension data — Stored locally in your browser until you clear it or uninstall the extension. We have no access to this data and cannot retain it on our end.
- Support correspondence — Retained for up to 12 months after your last communication, then deleted.
